    Andra May – Director of Fitness, Chicago

    Andra’s passion for health/wellness and fitness has always been at the forefront of her life. Beginning at a young age, she played on an all-star traveling softball team, as well as being a Junior Olympic track athlete. After playing collegiate softball and graduating with a degree in Psychology, Andra worked with the mentally ill (fun fact) and began personal training part-time. Personal training transformed into running boot camps in Chicago and San Francisco and finally with owning her own boot camp business.

    The opportunity to work for the Biggest Loser Chicago has been life changing. This unique setting has allowed Andra to truly help change people’s lives and the many guests have changed her life. Having 2 children and working full-time helps Andra understand the demands of daily life.

    When Andra is not at Biggest Loser Chicago, she is enjoying her family (Ultiminio, Alex, and Sydney). She and Ultiminio are very competitive and engage in many sporting duels, often mediated by their children!

    Lindsey Fisher

    Lindsey has been working in the fitness industry for the past six years and has been working out all her life. Growing up, her parents emphasized the importance of staying active together. Whether through sports, family races, or personal training, family outings equaled active outings.* Lindsey is certified in Personal Training, Schwinn Cycle, and Group Ex. She specializes in Boot Camp, HIIT, Cycle, Tabata, and Silver Sneakers. Before joining the Biggest Loser Team, Lindsey taught group fitness and NIKE Training Club instructor in Los Angeles for five years. She has trained all ages and abilities. Lindsey is also CPR/AED certified (No need to worry!)

    Ultiminio Lopez – Trainer, Chicago

    Ultiminio was born with a ball in his hand…actually several: a baseball, basketball, and a football. Athletics came very naturally to Ultiminio, leading to a full-ride baseball scholarship to the University of Nebraska.

    As an adult, Ultiminio has continued his passion and involvement in sports. He started boxing in his late 30’s, and within a year and a half, he had his first fight.

    He then began training boxers, as well as the average person just wanting an amazing workout. With the opportunity to work at Biggest Loser Resort Chicago, he brought his knowledge of boxing to our guests, and this specialized workout is often the highlight of the week.

    Not surprisingly, Ultiminio has never met another Ultiminio! When he is not working at the Biggest Loser Resort, he is walking his dogs (his other passion and business) and enjoying his family. As a father of 2 girls, he is a busy man. His main hobby is beating Andra at everything he can!

    He advises our guests to pack their favorite music for those times when you can drown out the trainers and just GO.

    Degree in Criminal Justice, University of Nebraska. Personal Training Certification with AFAA. CPR certified with the American Red Cross.

    Sue Loftus – Fitness Coach, Chicago

    Sue has worked as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor at a variety of Chicagoland Health Clubs and Park Districts since 2006. Some of her specialty classes include varied aqua classes, Zumba and core and stability ball workouts. She is certified in Peyow Aqua Pilates, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Flirty Girl Fitness, and has earned Continuing Education Credits in many other fitness classes.

    Sue has been with Biggest Loser Resort Chicago for over a year now, where she started as a Zumba instructor and quickly took on additional water classes. She enjoys working with our guests at the Biggest Loser Resort Chicago, finding it a meaningful way to directly impact people on their journey to health and wellness.

    Fun Fact: Sue enjoys country line dancing and pretty much any other kind of dancing.

    Sue’s recommendation to future Guests is to come with a heart rate monitor, lots of workout clothes and leave the word can’t at home, so that she can help you find what you can really do.

    Jerry Hayes – Motivation & Fitness Coach, Chicago

    After 40 years of being overweight couch potato, Jerry completely changed his life. Jerry weight loss journey started with NBC Show “The Biggest Loser” Season 7 with his wife, Estella. Jerry was on the show two week and loss total of 177 pounds with 151 pounds at home. This is biggest at-home loss in the history of the Biggest Loser. Jerry was the Season 7 $100,000 At-Home Winner. Jerry was 64 at the time.  Six year later Jerry is still at his goal weight.

    Jerry works as walking/fitness coach and motivational speaker at the Biggest Loser Resort at Chicago. He and his wife, Estella, are enjoying their new careers as trainers and sharing their story, and encouraging others in their personal journey at the resort. Jerry has BS in Mechanical Engineer. Jerry is a Spin Instructor, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Group Instructor and Certified Life Coach.

    Estella Hayes – Motivation & Fitness Coach, Chicago

    Estella began working at the Biggest Loser Resort at Chicago as a motivational speaker and accountability person and has now become a walking, hiking, spin, kickball and zumba enthusiast.  Currently, She is retired from her previous career of being a registered nurse in the rehab section of a senior facility.   Encouraging people to move more and enjoy life now.

    She continues sharing her weight loss journey from the NBC Show “The Biggest Loser” Season 7.  She was on the show for one week, like our current clients, and lost over 80 pounds at home and continues six year later to be at goal weight.  She and her husband, Jerry, are enjoying their new careers as trainers, and sharing their story, and encouraging others in their personal journey at the resort.  Estella has BS in Nursing.  Estella is a Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Group Instructor and Certified Life Coach.

    Cathy Feltz – Social Worker & Certified Senior Yoga Teacher, Chicago

    Cathy has a background as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of experience and she brings to her yoga teaching the patience and understanding she learned and developed as a counselor. Cathy is also a Certified Senior Yoga Teacher. She has a passion for helping others to find the physical benefits, stress reduction and peace that the practice of yoga has brought to her. She specializes in encouraging and teaching new students and providing modifications for all students as needed.

    Cathy completed her 200 hour Power Yoga Training with Next Yoga in Wheaton, Illinois.

    Matt Schaaf

    Matt graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Matt also received his certification in personal training from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-CPT). In addition, he is GYMGUYZ Group Instruction certified and has his NASM Group Training Specialization. Having previously interned at EFT Sports Performance, he learned to efficiently train athletes from elementary to college levels in a personal or group setting.

    Reservations must be cancelled changed or rescheduled at least 24 hours prior to the appointment time.     The experience turned out to be life changing in many more ways than the obvious goal of weight loss. My initial objective was to come in open minded and learn as much as I could about working out and nutrition. However I was soon to learn that my original intention was insignificant to the all-around positive outcome resulting from my week-long visit.

    Here are some of my exciting take-a- ways:

    Highlighting my stay was that I learned I was stronger physically than I ever mentally believed I was before my visit. I could get through each workout and my confidence grew with each passing workout(s) each day. I will continue to remember now on the days I don’t feel like I can even get through a half hour much less four sessions each day! Yes I can! Day after Day!

    The Resort also introduced us to various training methods so that each of us would have the opportunity to try new and different styles of exercise. I personally learned I liked boxing and it is a great workout!

    The information provided about nutrition and the easy ways to incorporate it into our busy lives was valuable. Simple ideas that could be accomplished to realize great results. And to have desserts as part of the menus! Decadent & Delicious!

    The Life Strategy Sessions caused much reflection which reset and restarted a new chapter in my life. Understanding how to set my mind, body & spirit in success mode to create the opportunities I aspire to achieve. Over the last 10 months I am opening up new opportunities in my career because of the ideas that were imparted to us that week. These thoughts are now becoming realities.

    Last but not least are the connections shared with the other clients. Hearing their stories of what brought them to the Resort and then celebrating their successes was truly gratifying and very self-motivating. Like the mother and her 22 year old daughter who came together in support of each other and then seeing daughter crying at the end of the week when she witnessed her mom able to get on the ground and get back up again. Sounds like a simple idea; however it had been over 5 years since she had been able to accomplish anything close to this task. We were all emotional and privileged to be an eyewitness to that.

    From the moment I stepped into the Biggest Loser Resort over a year ago I knew I was in the right place. I had let myself go mentally and physically after a sports injury. I had gained a significant amount of weight and lost muscle. My attitude was negative and I was just miserable. I needed a plan to get myself back to a healthy weight. The BLR trainers, dietitians and staff helped me write my own plan. Sure, the workouts were challenging but they were fun and the trainers were incredibly encouraging. They pushed me to my limits which were about 75% more than I would have pushed myself had I been on my own! The food was outstanding and helped me get off my addiction to sugar by providing a balanced meal that did not leave me craving chocolate! The staff helped me come up with a meal plan that I have stuck with for over a year. I have lost the weight, put on some muscle and feel better than I have in years.

    Coming to BLR chicago was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When
I came here I was broken down and hopeless, I found out that I had PCOS and that if I didn’t lose weight I might not be able to have kids.

    I’ve been heavy before and lost weight but I always seemed to put it back on. I am proud to say leaving BLR I put down almost 20 pounds of fat and gained a whole new perspective to life. I am officially the smallest I have been since the age of 12.

    Andra is one of the most amazing trainers I have met in my entire life, and I have had over 10 trainers in the past couple of years. She always knew exactly when
to say “push harder” and when to say “your best is enough”. After meeting her
I decided that I want to be a trainer like her, who knows what to do, and how to help. I won’t forget the day she made me do 1320ft on the Jacobs Ladder, and said “what better way to push yourself”.

    Sue taught me a lot when it came to posture and how to modify workouts (sometimes making them harder) to fit my needs for the day.

    Lindsay is wonderful, young, and ambitious. Each and every class she taught was fun and energetic just like herself. I was happy to have built a personal relationship with her in these past 2 months. Lindsay made me feel like I could do anything. She didn’t look at me the way I looked at myself. She saw me the way I wish I saw myself.

    As a nutritionist Jennifer was on the dot with everything. She took care of our allergies, our needs, and every complaint we put through were seen through all the way to the end. She understood that as guests our food was very important to us and that it had to be the best it could be for us to enjoy our experience.

    Coming here and making this team my new family was a decision that wasn’t hard to make. Everyone was friendly and thoughtful, and they pushed me to my max. Jessica was there for me whenever I needed. I had a breakdown going home and she helped me through it. It really touched me. I know that this is a place 
I can come to whenever I need support.

    Upon arrival, I was greeted by Caryn, who is an absolute PERFECT person to greet people! She was friendly, outgoing, and very informative. It was very nice that she took the time to come work out with us on her own during the week. BL Guests enjoy getting to know the staff, even those that work part-time or occasionally. Everyone could tell that Caryn genuinely enjoys working for the Biggest Loser and has an interest in the program and in them! The materials that are handed out at check-in are great. The binders are nice and the schedule very easy to understand! It’s a great look.

    Regarding the food…

    The turkey meatloaf was a huge hit as was the pecan crusted pork and the salmon. The berries desert, the chocolate “fudge,” and the “Peanut Butter Cups” were AMAZING!!

    Regarding the trainers…

    I can’t say enough about Andra, Sue, Shannon, and “Ulti”…they are fantastic! They all have a great handle on the guests and their tolerance levels. The boxing session was a HUGE hit, no pun intended! Ulti is very hands on and helpful while training and really motivates. He keeps people moving when they think they can’t, which is a big hurdle for many to overcome. Andra is very approachable and understanding. While she trains people hard, she has a side that allows one to know that you can talk to her and she will understand. Shannon is so perky and upbeat that you WANT to work out. She is down to earth and is fun to work with. Sue is a fireball! Such amazing energy and demanding when necessary. I think all of them could have pushed guests harder, but that might be different with each group that comes in to the program.
